10. Carol’s Pastry Shop
When you step in to Carol’s Pastry Shop you are stepping back into time. The adorable employees are (mostly senior citizen age) and are the kindest most thoughtful people you will ever meet. Carol’s has a variety of delicious homemade goods from donuts to cake to cookies and brownies, but one of the items at they’re most famous for is their homemade eclairs. If you’re just lucky enough, you’ll make it there right before they fill them fresh like I often do.

9. Carlucci’s Bakery
There’s a great little strip of restaurants just north of Pioneer Park in downtown Salt Lake, including The Rose Establishment, Bruges, and Tony Caputo’s. What would this little nook be without a bakery? They have a gorgeous assortment of baked goods and serve breakfast and lunch. Their decadence (flourless chocolate cake) is my favorite thing to order alongside a beautiful fresh fruit tart. Foodie tip: grab lunch at one of the surrounding restaurants and stop here for a sweet finish.

8. Mrs. Backer’s Pastry Shop
Mrs. Backer’s has been around since 1941. Their cakes are traditional in every sense- light and fluffy topped with vibrant buttercream flower frosting creations. Foodie tip: try the raspberry cream cheese pastries, the cookie dough cookie, and the frosted pumpkin chocolate chip cookies.

7. Banburry Cross
Banbury Cross is nothing but an absolute Salt Lake City classic. This donut shop opened in 1986 and sits just north of Liberty Park. Although their employees seem to be there making donuts around the clock, you can stop by for a fresh donut from 5:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. daily (earlier closing time on Sunday). My absolute favorites include the blueberry donut, the old-fashioned buttermilk donuts, and of course the ever so famous crumb donut!

6. Eva’s Bakery
The aesthetic and charm of this bakery are enough to reel anyone in. I love their beautiful display of fresh loaves of bread, the subway tiles on the backsplash, and their ready-made European-style sandwiches. Their baguette and butter ham sandwich is shamelessly delicious and I’m a huge fan of their delicious lemon meringue tart. Foodie tip: enjoy a quiet downtown brunch on a Saturday and order their heavenly stuffed french toast.

5. Fillings & Emulsions
Calling all macaron fans- if you want to enjoy a delicate, beautiful, and flavor packed macaron in the Salt Lake City valley, Fillings & Emulsions should be at the top of your list! This is a great spot if you want a treat to go, something small and delicious, or a special gift for friends and family. If it’s your first visit they will even let you sample a free macaron! Now let’s practice pronunciation: “mack-a-ron”. None of that “mack-a-roon” nonsense.

4. Fresh Donut & Deli
I truly cannot believe how long it took me to discover this incredible donut shop in Salt Lake City, located just off of State Street and 2700 south! The folks at Fresh Donut & Deli have completely mastered the art of light, fluffy, melt in your mouth donuts. I haven’t tried everything in their case quite yet, but so far every single donut has been incredible. My favorites have been the maple bar, the chocolate cake donut, and the scrumptious coconut donut.

3. Les Madeleines
I instantly became curious about this bakery when I heard about it’s “life changing pastries”, in particular, the beloved Kouign Aman. It’s everything you want in a beautiful buttery conglomeration of carbohydrates. Aside from this coveted item, Les Madeleine also has a delicious breakfast and lunch menu, as well as a gorgeous case full of authentic French pastries. Right across from The Leonardo. The Kouign Aman pastries often run out- plan accordingly so you don’t miss out!

2. Rubysnap Fresh Cookies
This is a flirty, mouth-watering, no-nonsense bakery. Owner Tami Steggell puts a ridiculous amount of thought into each of her unique cookies. Some of my favorites include the Mia (vanilla bean sugar cookie with a buttercream beet frosting), the Zoey (blueberry lemon chia with fresh-squeezed lemon glaze), and the Ricki (coconut deliciousness with almonds and semi-sweet chocolate). Foodie tip: you can purchase RubySnap cookie dough in the freezer section at any Harmon’s grocer in Utah.

1. Tulie Bakery
I’d be red-faced lying to anyone if I denied this was my favorite Salt Lake City bakery. I’ve tried everything (true story) in their flawless case. Some of my favorite pastries include the pain au jambon (ham croissant), rustic fruit tart, lemon bar, and chocolate bouchon. Their panini pressed sandwiches are to die for and if French onion soup is your thing then this is your place. They have a new location on 15th and 15th which is amazing but if you want to visit the original stop by the 700 south address below. Foodie tip: Tulie sells fresh, hot beignets on a first-come first-serve basis on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
